Taking to the trees.

Malting Farm had enjoyed success from its luxury safari tents placed between mature trees, before taking the applaudable step to replace these with luxury timber cabins based on the ground, followed by treehouses set within the canopies. Expected to open their doors in Summer 2021 this site will truly offer something for everyone, all within the grounds of a rural farm.

Client Brief.

The treehouses had to be large enough to cater for families yet cosy enough to not feel excessive during a couples stay. We created clever nooks for bunk beds and tunnels to luxury hidden rooms that break up the key spaces into their own zones, each with their own exciting features and views.

Main Challenges.

Understandably, our clients wanted the treehouses as close to the trees as possible, but without affecting the trees growth or health, and without damaging their roots. A clever space frame style steel sub-structure was designed to transfer the weight of the treehouse down to low-impact screw piles that could be installed in root-free zones.

Outcome.

Two wonderfully innovative and playful treehouses are the result, which are testament to the will power of the owners and self-builders who are continually pushing to see the overarching dream for the site come into fruition.
